Bag Tag – What’s in your golf bag?

FindtheFairways Bag TagOne of the really cool things about running a golf website is freebies! We get sent various pieces of golf equipment to review and mostly get to keep it. So now we have an office that’s overflowing with lots of golfing paraphernalia and we’ve decided it’s time for an early spring clean.

Being the decent types we are, we’re going to give it all away! That’s right, we want to share the love and pass on our freebies (even the really good stuff we’ve all had our eyes on).

We’re going to start things off by giving away these uber-cool beauties to help you save some shots around the green. We’ll add more and more prizes to our fantastic bag of schwag as we go along, so keep checking back for the latest updates Fairway Finders on our biggest compeition giveaway ever!

GEL Putter

- A GEL Topaz Putter – The very latest in groove technology putters worth £99
- An S Blade Bronze Swallowtail Putter – A putter you just can’t miss with worth £125
- A SKLZ Gyro Swing Trainer…Guaranteed to get you on plane, every time worth $199
- Loads of Brand Name hats, towels, tees and tiddly bits to get your juices flowing
- Tons of balls from all your favourite rubber junkies

What else is on the list I hear you ask? Well you’ll have to wait and see Fairway Finders but suffice it to say, it’ll be worth your while (Fourball at The Duke’s St. Andrews anyone?).

OK, so how do you lay your hands on our collection of freebies? Well, we want to know what’s in your golf bag. Simply write a blog post about your clubs and whatever else is in there using the format/questions below and throw a linkback/trackback to this post and you’re in! Well, almost…

We’d also like you to “Bag Tag” four (Fore!) other people and get them to tell us what’s in their bag too! It may not be groundbreaking but by jove it’s all we’ve got so get those fingers-a-walkin’ and grab yourself some top class golf gear!

Each week or so we’ll pick a lucky winner at random and send them some schwag so keep your eyes open for the winners list!

We’ve got some great contributors coming up including top PGA and LPGA players, journalists and golf bloggers who are all going to tell us what’s in their bag. It’s an entertaining read!

To show you how it’s done, our first Bag Tag is Mr Find The Fairways himself, Jon Ashworth -

Jon's Bag 1What golf bag?

Callaway Strike

What clubs?

Driver: Callaway Big Bertha Steel Head – (Needs updating)

Fairway Woods:  Callaway Big Bertha Steel Head 3 and 5 Woods – lovely clubs.

Callaway X 12 Irons, steel shaft..still great clubs…

Callaway X Forged Vintage Wedge 60 degree – bane of my life

GEL Golf Paul Hurrion Signature Sedo Putter

What else is in your bag Jon?

Turns out there’s quite a bit, it needs sorting. A grip I bought for my driver but never fitted, hundreds of bright pink tees (I know, I know they were free ok…honest..), four or five empty bottles of lucozade sport, some brush tees (where did they come from?). A half eaten pack of antacids (ewww) and oooh what’s this? A pitchmark tool from Turnberry that I thought I’d lost! Nice…glad we did this Bag Tag feature…

Jons Bag 4

What’s the most important piece of kit in the bag that’s not a club, ball, glove or towel?

My little wire club cleaner…£3.50 and it’s perfect for getting the crud out of the grooves.

Do you carry a lucky charm?

I’ve still got the first ball I ever had a par with but that’s about it. I’m not that superstitious really except for the number 13, don’t like that at all.

What’s the oldest thing in your golf bag?

The oldest thing in there is a manky old glove that’s ripped? Don’t why that’s there…lol. OK, now the oldest thing in there is my Callaway Steel Head 3 Wood from 2001. Love it.

Which is your favourite club?

The Sedo Putter, it’s awesome and saves me shots all the time…

Ask me again in a few weeks and it may be my shiny new TaylorMade R9 I’m about to buy!

So let’s see what’s in your golf bags, you may even surprise yourself!

Look out for our first Bag Tag from a certain well-known LPGA golfer!

Hi guys, i think this is a great idea, i like the give away idea. Well here is whats in my bag…i hope this is the right area for posting this!

    What Golf Bag:
Powerbilt lite. Old school, full carry bag with stand, i hate using a trolley. I have had this for years and it has done me well!

    What Clubs:
Powerbilt medium flex graphite 5 wood. ( i have no other woods, i have always felt my 5 wood will get me out of trouble, and so far sooo good :))
3-SW Dunlop irons(excluding PW) – These things have lasted me years, now i will be honest they are not the most well known clubs but they do the job. By the way i lost my pitching wedge on a course once and i never saw it again.
Taylormade 52deg specialist wedge – THIS IS GOLD!!

What else is in the bag:
16 Nike Power Distance Golf Balls
12 Wilson Staff AntiSlice Golf balls
2 gloves, both Callaway White, exactly the same actually i am superstitious about my gloves, Spalding towel, 2 empty water bottles, 1 half full one, and 1 full one i used yesterday. One old Honey log bar…yuck. About 100 “cane – it” tees, i got two handfuls for 10bucks (they were big handfuls!!) two divot repairs a thousand pencils and i think about 10 old scoring cards. I have a club cleaning kit, of which i actually only use the wire cleaner. I also have a brand new pair of socks, which i always keep because one of my pet hates is having wet socks! Oh and how can i forget my powerbilt umbrella.

What is the most important item in my bag:
I have agree with Jon here, the most important item is my club cleaner, i am meticulous about keeping my irons, wedges esp, clean of all muck
Do you have a lucky charm:
I don’t have a lucky charm, but i do have a lucky process. I always leave my bag about 4m to the front left of me, coz if i hit a good shot i always walk forward soon after the shot, and i always thought it would look quite stupid if i hit a good shot then walk forward then turnaround to get my bag. So i always put my bag ahead of me to anticipate a good shot. that’s the closest i can get to a lucky charm sorry..i hope i am still in the running for that putter :).

Whats the oldest thing in your bag:
My Dunlop 7iron 1999. Before i got my whole set i was given this club by a friend. I then happened to come across the whole set i think at golf mart so i got it and gave the new 7 iron to another friend who snapped his old one after making a poor shot…he blamed the club of course :)

    What’s my favourite club:
ooo thats a tuff one, it would either be my 5 wood or my taylormade 52deg. I think i may have to give it to my 5wood, as it is one of my most used club seeing i use it as a fairway wood and i don’t have any other woods so i use it alot off the tee. It has bought be back to the party a plenty of times!

    Well thats it for me.

I hope you enjoyed reading about my bag!!! Cheers

  10. Lol – excellent post Thiru, I like it a lot. Walking forward after hitting a decent shot is excellent, very funny and I love your pre-shot ritual. Nice one.
