Free fourball at Duke’s, St Andrews – David Scott plays Bag Tag

Bag TagOh yes Fairway Finders it’s Bag Tag time again and this week’s little gem comes directly from The Duke’s Course, St. Andrews, Scotland!

The outstanding manager of The Duke’s Course, David Scott is not only telling us what’s in his bag but he’s also offering the lucky winners of the Bag Tag a free fourball around the stunning course! Well what a bloody nice chap he is!

For those who don’t know already, The Duke’s is highly regarded as one of the finest championship courses in the British Isles and should definitely be on your “try before I die” list. It ranks right up there with the great inland challenges which demand accuracy inventive play. The Duke’s can challenge golfers at any level offering five different tee positions from every hole.

Spectacular views at Duke's Course Its spectacular setting above St Andrews offers panoramic views over the surrounding countryside to the sea and is a true wonder of golf. If you don’t want to play here, well quite frankly, there’s something wrong with you.

So Fairway Finders, if you’re a blogger who can make your way to St Andrews then it’s about time you got blogging to tell us what’s in your bag now isn’t it? Once you’ve done that, all you need to do “Bag Tag” four of your blogging pals and your name will be in the pot! So what are you waiting for? Exactly..

Full details can be found here but feel free to get in touch if you need some help. You can leave a reply here or catch-up with us on twitter @findthefairways.

So David, all round good guy and giver of the freebies – go ahead, tell us what’s in your bag…

View from the terraceWhat kind of golf bag do you use?

I use a Titleist Carry Bag – if I get a tour bag, I would need someone to carry it, and I’m too tight for that!

What clubs are in there?

Callaway 10* driver with ProLaunch X Shaft
Callaway 3 wood and Utility
Titleist Forged ZM 4 to wedge
Dynamic Gold X100.
Vokey 52*, 56* and 60* wedges – all 2* upright and 1″ longer than standard. 2 layers of tape.

What else is in your bag?

A woolly hat – ideal for the odd windy day we have on the East coast of Scotland
What’s the most important piece of kit in the bag that’s not a club, ball, glove or towel?
Some Scottish shortbread home-made by our pastry chef at the Old Course Hotel when I need an energy boost, to keep my birdie streak going…

Do you carry a lucky charm?

No, but I don’t use balls with the number three on them! I don’t need anything to remind me of three putting!

What’s the oldest thing in your golf bag?

My putter – it’s around 20 years old!

The Duke's Course, St AndrewsWhich is your favourite club?

My putter – it masks how you have played the hole, when you slide in a par saving putt.

Fantastic stuff. You know I never really considered not using a ball with the number three on it but now I’ve thought about it, it’s bound to be a bad omen. Damn it, something else to worry about!  Oh, and how about some of that lovely home-made shortbread sent down to Hampshire?? No? Ah well, worth a try.

So then, in true Bag Tag tradition, we’re tagging four bloggers on David’s behalf who will tell us what’s in their bag with any luck! If you’re wondering why you’ve been tagged it’s simple, you’re the lucky ones with the lovely blogs that we thought were the most appropriate. Simples!
