Greg Norman and Chris Evert split
It’s a real shame when things don’t work out but that’s exactly what’s happened with Aussie golfer Greg Norman and superstar tennis wife Chris Evert. The couple have split up after just 15 months of marriage.
In a short statement the couple said, “We will remain friends and be supportive of one another’s family.”
It’s a bit of a shock to be honest as the couple have always seemed strong and were only recently seen out together at the US Open Tennis Tournament in New York.
Greg and Chris got married back in 2008 at the One & Only Ocean Club Resort in the Bahamas in a very secretive wedding. It was that year that Greg Norman nearly won the British Open while still on honeymoon at Royal Birkdale saying he’d been spurred on by his new love. He ended up settling for third place in the end.
The couple haven’t said whether they’ll divorce or not but no doubt if they do, it’ll be cheaper than Norman’s divorce to his first wife Laura Andrassy which cost him a whopping $103million US dollars in September 2007.
Commenting in The Sunday Telegraph newspaper in Australia, Laura said that she wasn’t surprised at the split at all. “They say opposites attract. Here were two people very much alike, high profile and narcissistic people and that would make a relationship difficult,” she said.
“It didn’t come as a surprise. So soon was the surprise… I think we all knew. We didn’t have high hopes for it but they had been telling everyone how much in love they were, so everybody thought it would last a little longer than this.”
Unfortunately for Norman, he faces the world’s media in three days time at the Harding Park Golf Course in San Francisco where he will lead the international team in the Presidents Cup. Let’s hope the whole affair doesn’t rub off on his team.
