Putter Wars – Who was first?
I’ve been getting a lot of information in the post recently about whole ranges of new fangled putters with all sorts of clever technology squeezed into them to help us all out.
The ideas are most definitely taking off as we’ve shown in previous articles on FindtheFairways.com. GEL Golf, Yes! Golf and Nike have all recently released a range of grooved putters which are different to the rest out there. They’re all truly lovely putters and well worth a £160 investment in my opinion.
Not so long ago I went to a superb presentation by GEL Golf which just blew me away. Their attention to detail and scientific work really sets them apart from the crowd. One of the key advances is their putter shaft weighting system which helps to balance the weight of the putter in your hands which helps you to keep it on-line through the swing. They fit this specifically to you which is of upmost importance.
It was a unique idea that I hadn’t seen before and I thought is completes GEL’s perfect putter strategy. Then today I receive an email from Yes! Putters saying this…
“vSWS is a patented weighting re-distribution mechanism deployed within the putter shaft. The design objective is to connect the golfer to the putter in a more visceral way than has ever been possible.
By inserting a fixed weight at a specific point in the shaft the system helps smooth the golfer’s acceleration profile in the down-swing, producing greater distance control, touch and feel. At the same time, with a superior connection to the putter head the golfer can better control the consistency and the speed of the ball roll and hence the distance, as well as ensure the ball takes the correct break on the greens.”
Interesting I’m sure you’ll agree. Apparently, the system is patented so I’m interested to find out if both manufacturers can use this system. If so, who was first and will it be the start of Putter Wars? I doubt it but watch this space Fairway Finders…
