Sony Open Betting Tips – Hawaii
The Sony Open in Hawaii gets underway today as the first PGA event of the season. Summer is coming all be it slowly and we can all start thinking about those warm days on the golf course. Ahhh!
Set in the Pacific Ocean with the backdrop of the Koko Crater, the Sony Open in Honolulu is a super tournament to watch. Over $1,000,000 is raised annually for charities too so it’s a feel good affair.
This year, Defending champ Zach Johnson will try to fend off the field on the Seth Raynor designed Waialae Golf Course, a par 70 7,068 yard track. A 488 yard par 4 will start proceedings and shouldn’t be too challenging for the players. It’s pretty straight with no real trouble to worry about at all.
Hole 2 will be a different matter however. Water down the left and a tiny green surrounded by trouble will surely start to see players make mistakes. It’s going to be a great tournament.
So, who to go for then and who are our betting tips for the Sony Open? Well it’s a difficult one. You have to ask yourself who got fat over Christmas and ate one too many mince pies? Ok I don’t know the answer to that but time will tell I suppose.
You can’t rule out Zach Johnson the defending champ so he’d be a good bet at 19/1. Big Ernie Els has only finished outside the top five once in five years and has won it twice. At 31/1 it could be well worth it. David Toms at 37/1 is also worth a punt as his Hawaii record has been exceptional.
Luke Donald is also tipped to do well missing only two cuts in 21 events last year. 2010 could be his year. At 59/1 on Betfair it’s a lovely little bet.
Outsiders could include Kevin Na at 54/1, Y.E.Yang at 79/1, Rickie Fowler at 79/1 and what about John Daly at 349/1? You never know!
