West Lancashire spends £1.2 million but you’ll look a plonker playing it.
The West Lancashire Golf Club in Blundellsands, Merseyside has just finished a whopping £1.2 million refurbishment.
The respected club is one of the oldest ten in England and says it’s now set-up for twenty-first century golf. The top class redevelopment offers new changing facilities, improved player’s entrance, new bar and a big extension to its kitchen and function rooms. It also provides a new state-of-the-art professional golf shop. Looking good so far then?
Renovations also included the installation of a new thermal cladding roof which will help to reduce carbon emissions and cut energy bills. Very 21st Century…
Tom Dickinson, Chairman at West Lancashire Golf Club, said: “Nobles Construction has managed to provide up to date facilities for our members to enjoy while maintaining the historic character and feel of the clubhouse. Striking this balance is so important to our members and we’re delighted with the result.” Great…
It’s not that expensive to play and looking at their website…if you can get a group of twelve together, you can play for only £45 each including a meal which is great for the 57th best course in England.
Once you look in to it though and you think everything is going fine…you see the small print…Oh No!!! It looks like a snooty course?
“Tailored knee length shorts can be worn with knee length or white calf length socks in all areas, but only up to 19:00 hours in the clubhouse.” And that’s just one of many…
Come on West Lancashire? Knee length white socks? You don’t sound so set-up for 21st century golf to me…you might as well say “Come to West Lancashire and look like a complete plonker in our swanky new club house.”
That’s really disappointing. I was looking at the site thinking the course looks great and it’s one to put on the list as a “must play” course. Instead I’m left thinking maybe I won’t bother…there’s plenty of others who don’t really care if I change my shoes in the car park or wear my coat indoors…god forbid! I must have been dragged-up, not brought-up.
If anyone’s played here I’d be really interested to know if it is, in fact a snooty members course that doesn’t really want visitors…just thinks it does.
If you’re from West Lancashire GC…I’d be interested in a defence argument…
